Antigua and Barbuda




Welcome to Antigua and Barbuda! This beautiful island's name is Spanish for 'ancient.' It is an island in the West Indies, and located within the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean. It is the largest of the Leeward Islands, and many tourists come from all around the world to visit this great island. It is also known for its offshore banking benefits, as well as medical schools, educational institutions, and internet casino gambling.

There is a population of over 32,000 people in the popular town of St.John's. The capital is located in the northwest, near to the VC Bird International Airport.

English is the official language. Many of the local people speak English patois.

Local Currency:

The main form of currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD). United States currency can be used around the island. Travelers cheques and currencies can be exchanged at the international banks in most hotels and in Saint John's. Debit cards are accepted, as well as credit cards, but there are few ATM's around.

The out going phone access code for Antigua and Barbuda is +1, just like Canada and the USA. Then +1 is followed by 268. There are numerous internet cafes in top tourist areas.
