Welcome to Barbados! This popular Caribbean island is part of the Lesser Antilles. It is to the east of the Caribbean Sea and the Windard islands. Located in the North Atlantic Ocean, Barbados is just outside the hurricane belt.
In the early days, Barbados was a Portuguese territory and later became a part of a British Colony in 1625. Barbados has approximately 280,000 people. The capital of this country is Bridgetown and around 82,000 of Barbados population lives within the capital area.
Barbados then became an independent nation and part of the Commonwealth in 1966. The country retained Queen Elizabeth II as the Head of State. Barbados is very popular with tourists worldwide because it is one of the most developed islands in the Caribbean, and tourism runs widely.
